Monkeys, Monsoons, and Mee... Part 2

"Luxury is having a shower separate from the rest of your bathroom"
-Erin Rieder

After Kota Kinabalu, I flew to Brunei.  Somehow I ended up in business class for the 40 minute flight.  The best part of business class is the amazing lounges that you get to hang out in before your flight.

These are the islands that I had visited the previous day from above.

Then I arrived at my hotel room to find out it was a suite and about triple the size of my apartment.  It had a full size kitchen, living room, and dining room!

My hotel was so nice that the first night I decided to have food delivered.  I ended up with pineapple fried rice that had raisins and hotdogs.  It was actually delicious.

Brunei is a very strict Muslim country so they had these handy stickers on the ceilings of each room to make sure I knew which direction I needed to pray.

The next day I went on a day trip to Ulu Temburong National Park.  To get to the park we had to take a public speedboat, yes that is a thing, then a car for 20 minutes, and finally a longboat up a river.   The scenery was gorgeous.

The water level was quite low, which I'm confused about as it is the rainy season, so there was a man at the front of the boat with a stick to help pull us past the rocks.

Once we arrived at the national park we had to climb 2010 steps up a mountain.

To arrive at these super scary scaffolding towers, where we had to climb another 200 feet up into the air.
But the views above the canopy were gorgeous, like looking over a green sea.

I kept trying to take a photo showing how far off the ground I was but the trees were in the way.

There is also no possible way that a camera can capture how massive these trees are.

This is basically how I looked this entire trip, sweaty and dying.

This tower was the tallest and was 200 feet tall.
If you do not care about trees skip the next 20 photos.

These trees and roots are amazing

After the rainforest trek we got back on the boats and went to our next destination of a natural fish spa.  The short hike to the pond was through what looked like Jurassic Park.

You know the crazy amount of money people spend on going to spas to have fish eat their dead skin? Yeah actually you can just find a pond in the rainforest for free.

Since Brunei is an Islamic country there are mosques everywhere.

The city has a whole village on stilts across the river.

The only other thing besides the mosque to see is the Royal Regalia museum.  You cannot take pictures on the upper floors but that's ok because it was an entire museum of his royal sultan's butt sat on this pillow or his royal highness' hand touched this umbrella.
I could take pictures in the lobby though which was an entire reconfiguration of the Sultan's coronation. I do not know how many people were in this coronation but based on the amount of fancy umbrellas I would say there were over 500 people in this thing.

Here is the chariot which was pulled by people, not horses, people.
I love these super weird cat things on the chariot.

If you cannot read this is says, "the four royal betei boxes are octagonal in shape and made out of silver.  This royal regalia is used for keeping flowers and is usually born by the fours sons of the common nobles."  These are literally flower pots.

I went to a cafe for lunch and attempted to order Malay food.  The waitress came back and told me that they did not have what I ordered so I panicked and ordered the Swedish meatballs.  They were actually really good and probably from Ikea.
Look at my awesome tan lines and mosquito bites!

I'm glad I went to Brunei because I will probably never go back to this part of the world.  However I would never take a trip to specifically go to Brunei.  After Brunei I once again boarded a flight.  This time to the Southeast part of the island to the city of Kuching.
